One Country Music Hall of Famer paid tribute to another Saturday night as George Jones played a fundraiser in memory of his former wife and duet partner, the late Tammy Wynette.
Wynette was born near the small town of Tremont, Miss., where she began her transformation from local hairdresser to Nashville’s “First Lady of Country Music.” Her home county is planning a memorial park in Tremont as part of the Mississippi Country Music Trail, which recently added a historical marker telling Wynette’s story.
